We will find out how global events impact the price of crude, learn about environmentally friends alternatives to improve oil recovery, probe new developments in petroleum geology, and much more. 2007 Theme - Refine the Process
We started the process with a speaker from the Texas RRC informing members on Plugging and Abandoning Wells. Orientation was held to celebrate Desk and Derrick awareness month in February. Any process has to have maintenance to keep the flow moving and in March our members learned about the process of turnarounds at a refinery. After a turnaround the units will come back on line and run more efficiently. To be more efficient one of the processes to start with is the understanding of the importance of contracts and the integral role a contract starts with the flow of information on products moving from the ground into the refinery and out of the refinery. As the flow continues to go from one unit to another our members will learn how to plan for the best type of crude to purchase for the refinery to produce and the best product available for the market to sell. To help understand Refine the Process another key element in moving products are the environmental and safety concerns around transporting products either by pipeline, trucks, railcars or vessels. We will have speakers come and talk to us about shipping and environmental issues. A refinery cannot run without a trade being done or the skills of the scheduler which will prove to be the missing link to the process.
